Updates- current display, meeting and upcoming workshops

I hope that 2012 has been treating everyone right and there has been plenty of wonderful art happening within the BAA community!
Don't forget that we are hanging a new set of art work tomorrow, Saturday the 4th at St. Francis' Atrium Gallery at 10am. Our hanging committee always does an amazing job and it will help them get in and out quickly if everyone has their art on site on time.

Our monthly meeting is happening Sunday at 2pm at Decatur Trinity- it seems like it's been forever! Pam Craig is doing our demo for the day- the topic is reworking an old painting into something new. She will be doing a workshop for us on February 18th, so mark your calendars!

Don't forget the Valentine's Dance, sponsored by the BAC. Joe will have tickets for $25. Coletta's is catering, we have some amazing baskets put together by Sandra Morely, Becky McRae and Sandy Swett in the silent auction and Sy Rosenberg's band will be playing. If people want to get together and reserve a table for the dance, this can be arranged at the meeting this Sunday.

BAA has some wonderful things in store for 2012 and they are all possible due to the supportive, passionate membership!

Meeting this Sunday

Don't forget that our monthly meeting is Sunday at 2 pm. If you need your art work photographed for the WKNO show, Becky will be at our meeting room at 1:15 to take pictures. We have a very full meeting with 2 presentations, so be sure to get there early for photos and on time for the meeting.

If you already have photos of your work, make sure you email them to Becky by Sunday. She needs all the info for the pieces you're submitting to the WKNO show at that time as well so she can submit the required info to the organizers.

Our October Judged Show- with PICS!

On October 1st, we hung our most recent show at the Atrium Gallery at St. Francis. This show was judged by Rollin Kocsis of Gallery 56 located at 2256 Central Avenue, here in Memphis, TN.

Congratulations to our winners. I'm sure it was very difficult for Rollin to just pick four! Also, a HUGE thank you and kudos to the Exhibition Committee. Without their hard work, these shows wouldn't be possible, and their skillful arrangement and display skills make our group's amazing art look even better. :)

Without further ado- here are the photos.

Rollin checking out the work and providing a critique for the artist. (all artist names were covered so the work was judged completely anonymously)

Honorable Mention: Betty Ferrell

3rd Place: Becky McRae

2nd Place: Carol Pollard

1st Place: Carol Caughey

WKNO Show

I'm sure by now, everyone knows about our invitation to display BAA works in WKNO's Gallery 91. This is an amazing opportunity for all of us as artists to gets a much broader audience for our work!

The reception is Thursday, December 1st from 5:30-7:30pm and everyone is encouraged to bring as many people as possible! Gene is designing the invitation and we will have those available in both print and digital versions for maximum distribution.

The space at Gallery 91 is very impressive- tall ceilings and amazing natural light- and is ideal for large works and groupings. The requirements for displaying your work are the following:
  • All work exhibited must be for sale (WKNO takes a 25% commission, so price your work accordingly)
  • No nudity or controversial subject matter (common sense stuff)
  • Pieces must be framed or gallery wrapped canvases with wires on the back for hanging.
  • we would rather have too many than too few, so we are allowing as many pieces as you want to display. That being said, in order to represent everyone that wishes to participate, please rank your works in order of most important to display to least important.
  • Becky McRae needs to have all the information for your pieces by November 8th (If you are able to have it at the November 6th meeting- please do.) This information is: Artist Name, Title of the work, Medium, and Price.
  • She also needs a JPEG of each work- if you don't have the ability or would rather not take your own images, come early to the November meeting and she will take pictures for you.
  • Drop off for works is Tuesday November 29th from 9am to 10am. They would prefer if all works came together. The exhibition committee will collect all works prior to this date for delivery at WKNO at the requested time. Your works will be available for pick-up on January 3rd from 11am-12pm. **They must remain on display for the entirety of the show**
This is going to be an amazing show! We will continue taking sign-ups for the food for the reception at the November meeting. We're asking for finger food- one/two bite type stuff- that doesn't require any special set up or utensils.

If there are any questions, please ask! We want this to be as easy a process as possible.

October Show at St Francis

Remember guys, the next show, on October 1st, is a judged show. Rolland Kocsis, artist and gallery owner, will be our judge. Each entry is $5 and judging will occur on Sunday. Please be sure that your art work is at St. Francis, in the Atrium Gallery, no later than 10am on Saturday in order to be put into place by our Exhibition Committee.

Also, we have dates, times and guidelines for the WKNO show, opening on December 1st. This opening reception will be our holiday party as well, so we will have hors d'oeuvres, wine and entertainment. All the important information will be listed here in a separate post for easy linking.
